Hargreaves seeks re-election in Salem

SALEM — Selectman Patrick Hargreaves’ opponent has bowed out of the race, but the board chairman is taking nothing for granted.

That’s because Stephen Kelly’s name will still be on the ballot Tuesday. Kelly decided to file for the three-year selectman seat shortly before the Feb. 1 deadline, but then changed his mind.

“It’s not a given,” Hargreaves said. “People can still vote for him or anyone else. You can’t sit back, you have to fight for it. I’ve never seen a race like this before.”

Hargreaves has been the board’s chairman for the past year and a selectman for six years. He also served four years on the Budget Committee.

“As always, my goal is to keep taxes down for the residents,” Hargreaves said. “I will continue to work hard for them.”
