SUTTON — A milk tanker flipped over early yesterday on Interstate 89. The driver wasn’t hurt, but an undetermined amount of the 65,000-gallon load was lost.
N.H. State Police reported Frederick Steinhour, 59, of Enosburg, Vt., was driving south just after 3:30 a.m. when he lost control of the tanker.
The truck, owned by McDermott’s Inc., slid off the left shoulder and rolled onto the driver’s side.
The tank ruptured during the crash and some of those 65,000 gallons of milk spilled out.
State troopers and representatives from the state’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement and the Department of Environmental Services responded.
Traffic was reduced to one lane while workers tried to remove the truck.
Police said several factors that may have contributed to the crash will be investigated, including overnight temperatures that hovered around freezing, possible causing icing on the wet road surface.
