Shoplifting suspect found hiding in woods

By Alex Lippa

---- — PLAISTOW — A Merrimac woman was found hiding in the woods yesterday morning after allegedly shoplifting clothes from Kohl’s, according to police.

Allison Hunter, 49, was at the department store at 30 Plaistow Road when employees noticed her walking out with an unknown quantity of clothing she hadn’t paid for.

Hunter started running away from the store, throwing the clothes as she ran, police said.

Store employees told police they believed the suspect had gone to the Market Basket next door, but a search proved fruitless.

Police then received a tip Hunter had run out a back door of Market Basket into a bakery truck, which was parked behind the building.

A search of the truck also came up empty, but police noticed a set of footprints leading from the truck into the woods behind the building.

Police searched the area and found Hunter hiding behind a tree. She was arrested and charged with one count of shoplifting.

She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

Atkinson police assisted Plaistow in the search for Hunter. The incident occurred around 11 a.m.
