Two running for Salem Budget Committee seat

SALEM — Russell Frydryck seeks re-election to another term on the Budget Committee.

But this time, the committee chairman is only running for a one-year seat instead of the three-year position he now holds. Frydryck is being challenged by Steven Plante in the election Tuesday.

Frydryck has served on the committee for four years, including two as chairman.

The winner would occupy the seat vacated by Patrick McDougall, who stepped down after his arrest on criminal charges.

Russell Frydryck

Age: 53

Occupation: Electrical engineer

Incumbent: Yes

Elective experience: Budget Committee

What do you plan to do if elected? Balance service needs and keep the tax rate under control. Improve Salem’s infrastructure with a municipal safety complex, renovated library, sewer-water expansion and recreation facilities.

Steven Plante

Age: 33

Occupation: Senior commercial underwriter

Incumbent: No

Elective experience: None

What do you plan to do if elected? Limit tax rate increases to the inflation rate. I am a casino gambling proponent, but would like to be very conservative with how we spend this revenue.
