PLAISTOW - A homeowner removing paint from an antique car in a detached garage yesterday accidentally sparked a blaze that partially damaged the structure.
John Daggett of 10 Newton Road tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher he kept nearby, Plaistow fire Chief John McArdle said. But the small device couldn't prevent the flames from spreading, so Daggett ran out of the garage and dialed 911, the chief said.
