Computer glitch shuts down Danville's web site

DANVILLE - A computer glitch has put Danville's Web site out of commission.

The site automatically shut down during Christmas week, apparently when its calendar program went out of control, Selectman Shawn O'Neil said. The town was able to get the site back up and running briefly, but it went down again shortly afterward, O'Neil said.

A committee that oversees the site is trying to fix the problem with help from the town's computer company, said O'Neil, a member of that committee.

Until the site is fixed, anyone trying to sign onto www.townofdanville.org will see a message that reads, "This account has been suspended. Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible." O'Neil said that despite that message, it's not a payment issue. It's a computer problem.

The site is maintained and operated by a team of volunteers. The town pays a small annual fee to the Web site's hosting provider, he said. The site contains information about upcoming events, town services, departments, boards and committees.
