Methuen man hospitalized after crash

DERRY — A Methuen, Mass., man was hospitalized after crashing his motorcycle on Route 28 yesterday morning.

Wayne Berthelle, 59, of Methuen was traveling northbound on Route 28 at about 11 a.m. yesterday when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle near the intersection of Route 28 and Windham Depot Road, police said.

Berthelle was taken by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center, and later transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was in fair condition last night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The accident briefly halted traffic on Route 28, but the scene was cleared by the afternoon.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the accident and there were no passengers, according to Derry police Capt. Vernon Thomas. The accident remains under investigation.
