Derry lawmaker receives deferred jail sentence

BRENTWOOD — Rep. Frank Sapareto, R-Derry, received a 30-day deferred jail sentence yesterday for assaulting a young woman during a domestic dispute.

Sapareto, 53, was also fined $1,000, with $500 suspended, and ordered by Rockingham Superior Court Judge Marguerite Wageling to receive an anger management evaluation, Rockingham County Attorney James Reams said.

Sapareto was convicted of simple assault Friday after a two-day trial. He was found guilty of pushing his former girlfriend’s daughter when she tried to intervene during the dispute.

The lawmaker has said he was only trying to protect his former girlfriend from her angry adult son during an argument at her Derry home April 11, 2012.

Sapareto was found guilty of simple assault in 10th Circuit Court in Derry in April and received a 30-day suspended sentence, a $500 fine and was ordered to receive an anger management evaluation. He appealed the conviction and was granted a new trial.

Sapareto has served Rockingham County House Districts 5 and 6 since 2008. He served in the Senate from 2002 to 2004, and in the House from 1997 to 2002.
