---- — HAVERHILL - A New Hampshire man was struck and killed on Route 495 northbound in the area of exit 51 in Haverhill early this morning, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
State Police in the Newbury barracks received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at 1:25 a.m.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Nicholas Nadeau, 24 of Kingston, N.H.
Troopers arrived along with members of the Haverhill Fire Department/EMS. A Paramedic from the Fire Department determined the victim to be dead at the scene.
Troopers from the Massachusetts Crime Scene Service Section responded to assist with the investigation.
Route 495 northbound was shut down in the area of exit 51. Mass. DOT responded to the scene with arrow boards to assist in redirecting traffic around the scene during the investigation.
It was one of two fatal accidents reported on Massachusetts highways overnight.
In a separate incident at 3:25 a.m., Troopers from the State Police barracks in Dartmouth responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash on Route 140 northbound, north of exit 5 in New Bedford. Troopers arrived along with members of the New Bedford Fire/EMS and discovered that one of the people involved in this crash was deceased at the scene.
