Meat sales, marijuana lead to charges

PELHAM — Two men were arrested in Pelham yesterday for selling meat door to door without a license and for possession of marijuana.

Members of the Pelham Police Criminal Bureau saw two men selling meat from the back of a pickup truck on Bridge Street yesterday afternoon.

After learning the men had not obtained a peddler's permit from the town, the truck was stopped and Matthew Earl, 21, of Berwick, Maine, and Matthew Mazzarella, 21, of Medford, Mass., were arrested. The two were charged with not having the peddler's permit and for possession of marijuana.

The two were employed by Atlantic Beef Company of Eliot, Maine, and had been traveling door to door, selling meat, according to Pelham police Lt. Gary Fisher.

Both men were released on court summons and are due in Salem District Court Sept. 27.

Fisher reminded residents to be cautious of individuals selling any products door to door and to report such incidents to the police department.
