HAMPSTEAD — A 71-year-old man faces 14 charges, including nine counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, for incidents involving a young girl, police said.
Walter Carroll of 86 Main St. was arrested Thursday night by Hampstead police and held at the county jail on $50,000 cash bail, Lt. John Frazier said.
Carroll is also charged with two counts of felonious sexual assault, two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child and a misdemeanor count of false imprisonment, he said. The nine counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault are felonies, Frazier said.
Carroll was to be arraigned yesterday morning in 10th Circuit Court in Plaistow, but the arraignment was postponed so he could obtain a lawyer, Frazier said.
The arraignment is now scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Monday. Some documents are sealed because the case involves a child, he said.
Police, led by Detective Robert Kelley, had been investigating the case for about three weeks before Carroll was arrested about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Frazier said he couldn’t reveal much about the investigation because the victim is under 13. He did say there are not believed to be any other victims.
