PELHAM — A flag football game Friday night was postponed after audience members reported seeing a black bear in the area.
The bear was described as a larger cub and was seen running around the Pelham Funeral Home. Attendees at the flag football game at Lyons Park — behind the funeral home — called police around 7:50 p.m.
The New Hampshire Flag Football league representative on the scene called Sgt. Anne Periello, who suggested he stop the game.
“I recommended at that point that they vacate the field,” she said.
Attendees left and police closed the park, which they reopened the following morning after the sightings ceased.
“The bear has not been seen since, and they can travel miles and miles, which they normally do at night,” Perriello said. “We’re hopeful that it is out of the area.”
Perriello said league representatives are talking about finishing the postponed game today or tomorrow.
Pelham police are asking residents to report any more sightings.
