Plaistow Lions collect food donations Saturday

PLAISTOW — The Plaistow Lions Club will hold a food drive Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Timberlane Glass and Mirror, 108 Main St.

All nonperishable food donations will be accepted.

All donations collected will go to the Holy Angels Food Pantry.

Garden club seeks used flowerpots

SANDOWN — The Sandown Garden Club will hold a Pot Recycling Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Town Hall parking lot on Main Street.

Anyone with used flowerpots is asked to drop them off for cleaning and use next year.

Club meetings, open to all, are the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Center on Pheasant Run Drive.

Atkinson Democrats host a cookout

ATKINSON — The Atkinson Democratic Committee is sponsoring a cookout on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Democrats and friends of Democrats are invited to attend and meet candidates for local, county and state offices.

Enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and other cookout fare. There is no charge, but freewill donations are accepted.

The cookout will be held at the home of Harlan and Mae Cheney, 11 Meditation Lane, in Atkinson. RSVP to atkinsondems@comcast.net.

Free workshop is all about perennials

KINGSTON — New Creation Gardens is hosting a workshop, “Knowing and Loving Your Perennials,” on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m., led by Gale Lyon.

The workshop is based on the “Perennial of the Year” named by the national Perennial Plant Association each year since 1990. Lyon will discuss these 24 “Perennials of the Year,” each plant’s characteristics, strengths, weaknesses and planting needs.

No pre-registration is needed, nor is there a charge for the workshop.
