No more cyanobacteria worries at Big Island Pond, Long Pond

The state Department of Environmental Services on Friday removed a cyanobacteria warning for Eastern Cove (near Hemlock Heights) of Big Island Pond, located in Derry, Atkinson and Hampstead.

The cyanobacteria warning was issued Aug. 19.

DES also removed on Friday a beach cyanobacteria advisory for Long Pond Town Beach in Pelham.

There's a new Eagle in Windham

WINDHAM — Christopher Borcoche, a graduate of Windham Middle School, has earned the Life Scout ranking from the Boy Scouts of America.

Borcoche dedicated his Eagle Scout project to beautifying the main entrance of Windham Middle School.

He is building a brick patio area with the assistance of Marc Rusch of Windham Outdoor Landscapes, which has assisted with the supplies.

The Windham Middle School administration and faculty are grateful for the project.

Blood drive scheduled at Knights of Columbus

SALEM — On Thursday, Sept. 9, there will be an American Red Cross blood drive at Knights of Columbus Hall, 37 Main St., from 1 to 7 p.m.

All donors will receive an American Red Cross reusable tote bag.

The time you take to donate could help a premature baby, an accident victim or a cancer patient on the road to recovery.

    HAMPSTEAD - Selectman Sean Murphy told the crowd at last night's deliberative session that he changed his mind about the $1.53 million warrant article to build a new police station.
    Murphy voted not to recommend the plan to build a 7,600-square-foot, one-story facility on Veterans Way in January. But he told more than 50 people at last night's meeting he now feels differently.
