---- — MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A Manchester man was charged Friday with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at a police officer during a foot chase after a traffic stop, police said.
Garrett Allen Gauthier, 21, also has been charged with possession of prescription drugs with intent to distribute and falsifying physical evidence.
Manchester police said they stopped a car in the area of Summerville and Wilson streets at about 10:20 a.m. Friday and the passenger, who turned out to be Gauthier, bolted from the vehicle.
Police said he fired at the pursuing officer, who fired back. A second officer joined the chase and Gauthier was arrested without injuries.
Police said they were collecting evidence at the scene, including three discarded handguns.
Gauthier has several active warrants including for forgery and jumping bail, police said. It’s unclear if he’s being represented by a lawyer.
The shooting happened on the anniversary of last year’s shooting death of Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney during a drug raid. Four other officers were injured in that case.
