Pelham police offer free self-defense classes

---- — PELHAM — The Pelham Police Department is hosting a free Rape Aggression Defense class for women.

The class is designed to empower women through self defense, awareness and avoidance. The class is a three-night course, scheduled for June 20, 25 and 27.

Participants have to attend each class in order to successfully pass the course. Classes will be held at the Pelham Police Department.

Classes start at 6:30 p.m. and end at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Sign up for summer fun at library

HAMPSTEAD — The summer reading program at Hampstead Public Library is about to get underway.

Sign-ups start on Monday, June 24, at 1 p.m. All students at Hampstead Central and Middle Schools will receive an event schedule and a calendar for tracking reading time. The forms are also available at the library.

This year’s summer reading theme for children is “Dig into Reading.” Events all summer include: Worm Composting, an Indiana Jones Party and Soda Bottle Terrarium.

Pelham will dedicate new fire station

PELHAM — The dedication of the new fire station by the Village Green is scheduled for Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

An open house, with station tours, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kids, try some under-the-sea fun at the mall

SALEM — Dive in for fun and adventure with The Mall at Rockingham Park on Saturday when the Simon Kidgits Club sets sail for a day of under-the-sea activities. Kidgits will make tropical fish creations, sand art, shell crafts and more all while learning about all the different types of fish in the sea.

Join Salem’s Citizen Police Academy

SALEM — The Salem Police Department has announced the schedule for the fourth annual Citizen Police Academy, made possible by a donation from the Salem Exchange Club.

It’s open to Salem residents 18 and older, as well as any Salem business owners. Classes will run on Tuesday nights from Sept. 10 through Nov. 19. Most classes will be held between 6 and 9 p.m., with one Saturday class.

Anyone interested in learning about law enforcement and getting an inside look at the Salem Police Department should sign up. Contact Lt. Application packets must be submitted no later than July 19.

Fill up on spaghetti and meatballs

EAST HAMPSTEAD — A Spaghetti Supper will be held on Saturday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the East Hampstead Union Church, 225 E. Main St. (Route 121A) just south of Route 111.

The menu will include spaghetti, Italian meatballs and sauce, salad, rolls, assorted desserts and beverages. The cost for the meal is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12, with no charge for preschoolers.

The site is chair-lift accessible. Take-out meals are available. Proceeds benefit the Operating Fund of this historic church. Call 378-0683.
