---- — DERRY — Voters yesterday approved a new three-year contract for the school district’s paraprofessional and assistants union. They did so by a four-vote margin, 356-352.
Just about 3.5 percent of Derry’s approximately 20,000 registered voters cast ballots. Nine new voters registered to vote at the polls.
In March, voters approved the school’s $81 million budget, but rejected an agreement between the district and the AFSCME teachers assistants union.
The new three-year agreement would give members a 10-cent raise the first year, 15 cents the second year and 15 cents in the third, costing about $27,000 less than the original agreement.
The positions covered in this union include educational assistants, special education assistants, kindergarten aides, and library, computer and reading assistants.
Money to support the new contract will come from the approved budget.
