N.H. man jailed for tax evasion

CONCORD (AP) — A Hampstead man has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of tax evasion.

Kevin Attar, 51, also has been fined $30,000.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Attar was the 100 percent shareholder of Surge Industries Inc., an employee services company, from 1989 until March 2004. At that time, he sold two-thirds of the business.

During the course of an Internal Revenue Service audit, begun in 2006, and in an investigation, evidence was developed proving that for tax years 2003 and 2004, Attar diverted more than $250,000 of his company’s income and didn’t report it on his personal income.
