Sandown Food Pantry needs donations for the holiday

SANDOWN — The Sandown Food Pantry expects to assist many families this year with Christmas dinners and anticipates an increase from previous years.

Help is needed to meet the need. The list of requested items includes frozen turkeys, 11 to 18 pounds; frozen chickens, five to seven pounds; stuffing; jellied cranberry sauce; cans or jars of gravy; five-pound bags of potatoes; fresh butternut squash; cans of corns, peas, carrots and mixed vegetables; vanilla and chocolate cake mix; chocolate and vanilla frosting; and brownie mix.

The pantry also needs grocery store gift certificates and cash donations. Checks should be made payable to Sandown Food Pantry and mailed to P.O. Box 5, Sandown, 03873.

Anyone donating a turkey is asked to call Arlene Bassett at 887-3453. Donors can drop off nonperishable food items at Town Hall during regular business hours until Thursday. Frozen turkeys and chickens can be dropped off at Town Hall on Tuesday until 6 p.m.

‘Hops for heroes’

starts at noon

LONDONDERRY — Barb’s Beer Emporium, 27 Buttrick Road, is hosting a “Hops for Heroes” event today from noon to 6 p.m. The store is in the Mr. Steer plaza.

Proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

The event includes beer tastings, food, silent auctions and other giveaways. Owner Barbara Lambert said it’s a good way to help those in need.

“This is a great event and our way of giving back to the wonderful men and women who protect our great country,” Lambert said.

Wear pajamas to story time tonight

ATKINSON — Kimball Library invites youngsters 4 to 8 years old to stop in tonight from 7 to 7:30 for “PJ Peeps.”

Children are invited to wear their pajamas to the library, listen to a few stories and enjoy a snack.

This is a drop-in event. friends are welcome.

The library is at 5 Academy Ave. Call 362-5234.
