LONDONDERRY — A Londonderry mother faces charges for leaving her two young children — one a 2-year-old boy — alone outside one evening.
When police arrived at the Fieldstone Drive home of Julie Anne Keiran on June 6, they found the toddler and his 10-year-old sister playing in the dark outside their apartment complex, according to Londonderry police Lt. Ryan Kearney.
“These two children were out front unattended,” Kearney said yesterday. “We checked around for any adults. We couldn’t find anybody.”
Keiran, 35, of 178 Fieldstone Drive turned herself in to police Monday night on an arrest warrant. She was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail on each count.
Kearney said Officer Timothy Moran responded to the apartment complex after police received an anonymous call about 8:35 p.m. from someone who said they saw Keiran leave in a vehicle while the two youngsters were outside. Both children were fine, Kearney said.
Moran waited for Keiran to return, but she didn’t show up until 9:17 p.m., Kearney said.
“The mother claimed she just went to the mailbox and the Dumpster, and was gone for five minutes, but we were there for a while,” he said.
Keiran was released on $4,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned July 15 in 10th Circuit Court in Derry.
