Pelham administrators will move into trailer

---- — PELHAM — School administrators should have temporary offices next to Pelham Elementary School next month.

School Board Chairman Brian Carton said the board agreed this week to install a construction trailer-style office.

Superintendent Amanda Lecaroz estimated the cost of the project, which will include paving for parking, at up to $140,000.

Officials this spring said they had $217,000 set aside in the budget to pay for offices this year.

Still to come is a long-term solution for administrative offices.

That’s likely to include a new portable classroom unit for kindergarten that also will hold the SAU offices. That project would take place next summer.

“Plans and a financial model for a new portable are under development,” Carton said. “That portable would replace the existing kindergarten portable and would contain SAU office space and three kindergarten classrooms.”

Officials had been exploring a lease-to-own deal.

Administrators were displaced by the SAU 28 split from Windham that took place July 1. Windham then became standalone SAU 95.

SAU 28’s offices had been in Windham.

Pelham voters at Town Meeting rejected a plan to renovate space at Town Hall for the SAU.

The office relocation project comes as the School Board is preparing to ask voters for a $20 million expansion and renovation at Pelham High.

That would come before Town Meeting next March.

Meanwhile, the school district has a new business administrator.

Lecaroz said Steve Martin succeeds Adam Steel as business administrator. Steel is sticking with the Windham school district in that post.

Martin has started work in Pelham.

Lecaroz said Martin previously worked in the Litchfield School District and was New Hampshire’s school business administrator of the year in 2012.

He is president of the New Hampshire Association of School Business Officials.
