NH group to get $1M to help homeless vets

---- — NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — An organization that helps homeless veterans in New Hampshire is getting a $1 million grant to help them.

The funding from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is going to Harbor Homes in Nashua. It will allow the organization to provide financial assistance to more than 300 veterans and their families. It will help them cover rent, utilities and other living costs.

Under the program, Southwestern Community Services in Keene will receive more than $263,000 to help approximately 55 veterans and their families.

The Government Accountability Office estimates between 423 and 600 homeless veteran households are in New Hampshire and a further 7,175 such households in the state are at risk of homelessness.
