Prescott leads in Senate race

KINGSTON — Russell Prescott was headed for re-election to a fourth term in the state Senate early this morning.

Final vote totals were not available, but the Republican incumbent was leading Democratic challenger and fellow Kingston resident Carol Croteau in most District 23 towns.

Prescott won Chester, Danville, East Kingston, Kingston and Sandown. Prescott received 7,196 votes in those towns to 4,981 for Croteau. Results were not available from Brentwood, Epping, Exeter and Fremont.

Prescott, 52, served in the Senate from 2000 to 2004, then was elected for a third term in 2010, when he defeated Maggie Hassan. He is an engineer and business owner.

Croteau, a 52-year-old Democrat, is the founder of Bully Free NH. Croteau ran unopposed in September. She ran for a House seat in 2010, but was defeated.
