WINDHAM — A new community event debuting this month will highlight the town’s culinary treats.
Twenty businesses are participating in the Windham Foodie Weekend, Sept. 27-29.
The weekend includes a Foodie Expo and Farmers Market that will showcase products from Windham businesses, as well as a few from out of town.
“The first annual Windham Foodie Weekend is a way to celebrate and support our local businesses,” Community Development director Laura Scott said in announcing the event.
Foodie Weekend is similar to the restaurant week activities seen in Boston and other cities.
The expo, set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Searles School and Chapel, 3 Chapel Road, will let people sample food from the businesses.
Meanwhile, businesses will offer specials and samples throughout the weekend to people who visit.
Lucia’s Bodega on Route 111 will have wine and cheese tastings, while offering discounts.
“Hopefully, we will get new people coming in from town,” owner Chuck Palazzolo said. “We have a lot of people moving to Windham.”
Palazzolo sees Foodie Weekend as a good chance for people to get to know what’s available to them in town.
People who come to Lucia’s will be going to school.
“They will learn about different types of wine,” Palazzolo said.
He is hoping patrons will take away a good experience.
“My key is service,” he said. “We try to have a homey feel. I want to make you feel like you’re coming into my home.”
Lobster Tail Restaurant will give people a free appetizer with dinner or a free cup of chowder with lunch.
“Hopefully, people will get an understanding of the quality we’re all about,” owner Mark Smith said.
Despite the name, Smith said, people also will learn Lobster Tail is more than just a seafood restaurant.
For Smith, participating was an easy call.
