Man charged with assaulting woman for seven hours

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — DERRY — A Derry man faces seven assault charges after allegedly kicking, slapping and biting his girlfriend for seven hours.

Matthew Lambert, 39, who has trained in mixed martial arts, sits in the county jail for lack of $10,000 cash bail.

Police Tuesday received a report of a domestic assault that had occurred earlier. The alleged victim was at Parkland Medical Center, being treated for “multiple injuries,” according to police Capt. Vernon Thomas.

The woman, 34, told police she and Lambert started arguing at about 9 p.m. Sunday. Things escalated, she said, and Lambert started to assault her.

She told police the assault continued for seven hours. During that time, the woman said, Lambert strangled her at least twice. He also bit, slapped and kicked her repeatedly, Thomas said.

At one point, the woman told police, Lambert put her in a hold and she nearly lost consciousness.

Officers saw marks and bruises “all over” the woman’s body, consistent with her description of the assault, Thomas said.

Police arrested Lambert on a warrant yesterday morning. He was charged with three counts of second-degree assault and four counts of simple assault.

Lambert was arraigned in 10th Circuit Court in Derry, then taken to the county jail when he couldn’t post the $10,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again Thursday for a probable cause hearing.
