HAMPSTEAD — Once again, St. Anne’s Ecumenical Food Pantry is sponsoring the Adopt A Family program that has so successfully provided much needed gifts for the holidays to families in the greater Hampstead area.
Although the local economy is slowly improving, there are many families, seniors and single parents whose means are limited to providing the barest necessities and who have nothing left over for the holiday “extras.”
The Adopt A Family program allows those who are more comfortable a way to help those who have less in a confidential way.
The gifts requested include toys for small children, clothing for all ages of children, and gift cards to grocery stores or department stores for adults and seniors.
This program supplements the food and basic toiletries supplied by the Food Pantry on a regular basis and the extra food supplied for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
On a normal distribution day, the pantry gives out bags of groceries to about 30 families. For Thanksgiving and Christmas, that number rises to more than 110 each time. Extra help is needed to offer assistance to so many more families at this time of year.
Anyone who would like to participate should call program coordinator Aileen Wall at 275-2394 or email her at email@example.com. She has all the information needed to sign up as a donor. People may specify whether they would prefer to purchase toys or clothes for youngsters or gift cards for adults. Wall will find a family that meets those specifications.
The Food Pantry provides services to the towns of Hampstead, Sandown, Danville and Atkinson, and to those in need of all faiths. The closing date for participation in this program is Dec. 15.
