Two injured in Salem crash

SALEM — Two men were hurt, including one with life-threatening injuries, when a car and pickup truck collided yesterday afternoon at the intersection of North Broadway and Route 111.

The driver of a PT Cruiser was rushed by ambulance to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, then flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital, according to Salem fire Capt. Stephane Cattin.

“The person in the sedan was Medflighted with very serious, life-threatening injuries,” he said.

The driver of the Dodge pickup was also taken by ambulance to Holy Family, Cattin said. The drivers’ names were not available.

The accident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. near the Hess station at 362 N. Broadway, delaying traffic. An accident reconstruction team was called in to determine how the crash occurred.

Cattin said one vehicle struck the side of the other, but no further details were available. Six Salem fire department vehicles and 13 emergency personnel responded to the crash, he said.
