SALEM — The Salem Garden Club held its July meeting at the home of John and Vickie Collins.
Club members enjoyed a garden tour and presented an award to 2009 Salem High School graduate Justin Gagne.
Justin is studying turf management at the Stockbridge School at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass.
He started doing yard work at the age of 9 and is now taking care of 27 lawns, as well as working part time at Atkinson Country Club.

WINDHAM — A proposal for design fees for a new middle school got a bumpy ride last night at the school deliberative session.
Meanwhile, on a 55-42 vote, residents added $500,000 to the operating budget to fund teacher raises. The contract is still in negotiations. Talks were suspended recently because an agreement couldn't be reached before town meeting.
HAMPSTEAD - Selectman Sean Murphy told the crowd at last night's deliberative session that he changed his mind about the $1.53 million warrant article to build a new police station.
Murphy voted not to recommend the plan to build a 7,600-square-foot, one-story facility on Veterans Way in January. But he told more than 50 people at last night's meeting he now feels differently.
A Windham mother said she is relieved after the driver in the crash that killed her son is convicted of vehicular manslaughter.
