---- — ATKINSON — A 65-year-old man was injured when his car swerved out of control and struck trees off Route 111.

Ronald Comeau of Atkinson was taken to a local hospital Thursday afternoon with injuries that were serious, but not life threatening, Atkinson police Sgt. Patrick Caggiano said.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle, for some unknown reason, veered off the road and came to rest between two trees,” Caggiano said. “Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.”

Caggiano said police are investigating whether a medical condition may have contributed to the crash. Comeau was in and out consciousness when rescuers arrived, Caggiano said

Comeau was traveling west when the accident occurred shortly before 1 pm. He had to be extricated from the smashed Dodge Neon, Caggiano said. A tow truck was needed to pull the car from the woods. Emergency personnel from Atkinson and Derry responded to the crash.

No details on Comeau’s medical status were available yesterday.
