BRENTWOOD (AP) — A jury has heard the final arguments in the trial of a man accused of helping his father plot the murder of a Derry man.
Prosecutors told the panel in Rockingham County yesterday that 32-year-old Jesse Brooks was seeking revenge when he and his father planned the murder-for-hire killing of a mover they blamed for the theft of family valuables.
Jesse Brooks is accused of recruiting friends for the killing and making payoffs to a person who took part in the June 2005 slaying of Jack Reid of Derry.
Defense lawyer William Kettlewell told jurors the case against his client was guilt by association.
Brooks' father, John, is now serving life in prison.
The elder Brooks founded a medical supply company that he sold for about $30 million.
