Man charged with using stun gun

DERRY — A 23-year-old Derry man, who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and shocked her brother with a stun gun, was arrested last week on assault and drug charges.

Police arrested Brian Brettell at his Windham Road home at 3:18 a.m. Friday. Police had received a call a few hours earlier from Brettell's girlfriend, who told them he pushed her into furniture and shocked her brother with a stun gun. There were no injuries as a result of the assaults, according to police.

Police said when they arrived at Brettell's home with a search warrant they found an ounce of cocaine, several pills, drug paraphernalia, a 9 mm handgun, and cash.

Brettell has been charged with four misdemeanor counts of simple assault, a misdemeanor count of criminal use of an electronic defense weapon, and one felony count of intent to distribute a narcotic drug, according to police.

He was arraigned Friday in Derry District Court and is being held on $50,000 cash bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court tomorrow for a probable cause hearing.
