Londonderry man charged with shooting twin

Police say it appears 'accidental'; victim rushed to Boston hospital

LONDONDERRY — Andrew Dadian, 22, was charged with felony reckless conduct last night and his twin brother Peter was in a Boston hospital after a shooting in the family home at 15 Robin Hood Drive.

Andrew Dadian was charged after allegedly accidentally shooting his twin brother in the neck with a .22-caliber rifle, police said last night. He was released on personal recognizance late last night pending his arraignment in Derry District Court Dec. 15.

Police initially said Peter Dadian's injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. He was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, but later transferred to a Boston hospital, Lt. Christopher Gandia said.

"They've upgraded his status and taken some precautionary methods, which Southern New Hampshire isn't equipped to handle," he said shortly after 10 p.m.

The 911 call came in about 7 p.m. and was made by the Dadians' sister, Gandia said. In addition to the three siblings, the parents were home at the time of the shooting, Gandia said. He said he believed Andrew and Peter Dadian lived at the house.

A neighbor, who didn't identify himself, said the Dadians were "a nice family."

The state police bomb squad was called in to search for an explosive device, which local police believed might be in the house. The bomb squad was on the scene sometime after 9 p.m. and the road was closed while they searched the house. Shortly after 11 p.m., Gandia said the device turned out to be some sort of drug paraphernalia, perhaps a bong.

Police requested a search warrant for the house last night to look for anymore weapons and for drugs. Gandia said it appeared there was some drug activity at the house, something that was discovered inadvertently during their investigation of the shooting. They were executing the warrant late last night.

Gandia said the shooting took place inside the house, possibly in an upstairs bedroom. While police interviewed family members and emergency personnel attended to Peter Dadian in an ambulance in the driveway, flashlights were visible in an upstairs window at the front of the house.

The house is owned by Susan Dadian, according to town records. The two-story house, built in 1997, sits on an acre-and-a-half lot, set back on the quiet residential street.

Holiday lights glowed from the front of the house, stretched across shrubs and trees. The front door of the house was open and numerous police officers went in and out, framed in the bright light from the home's interior.

A woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, ordered a reporter and photographer away from the property. She crossed the lawn to repeat her request, saying, "Just go away."

She then got into a car with an older woman and left the scene. That was just minutes after an ambulance took Peter Dadian to the hospital. He could be seen moving while being loaded into the ambulance on the stretcher.

At least eight police cruisers lined the dead-end street, which is off Mammoth Road. A Londonderry firetruck also was at the scene when it first unfolded.

Gandia said police did not expect to charge anyone else in connection with the shooting. Reckless conduct is a class B felony only when a deadly weapon is involved, under New Hampshire law.

Gandia said any potential drug charges were still pending late last night.
