Salem police arrest woman on fraud charges

SALEM, N.H. — Police arrested a Somerset, Mass., woman Tuesday afternoon after she allegedly tried to withdraw $5,000 from someone else's bank account.

Police were called to the Bank of America at The Mall at Rockingham Park at 2 p.m. Bank employees told police Nicole Reade, 20, was trying to withdraw $5,000 from an account that had been flagged. The account holder's purse had been stolen in Boston, police said.

When police arrived at the bank, they said Reade tried to convince them that she was the account holder, even showing them the account holder's driver's license. But police contacted the woman whose purse had been stolen.

Reade was taken into custody and charged with two felony counts of fraud, false reports and receiving stolen property. She was held on $10,000 cash bail pending arraignment in Salem District Court.

The victim's purse and its contents were recovered.
