Salem man hit by SUV

WINDHAM — A Salem man was injured yesterday when he was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot on Mammoth Road.

Kenneth McCormack, 61, was walking in the Waterhouse Country Store lot about 3:20 p.m., when he was hit by a 1998 Dodge Durango driven by David Smith, 39, of Hudson.

Windham firefighters transported McCormack to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, where his condition was not available last night.

McCormack's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said. He was conscious when taken to the hospital, police Chief Gerald Lewis said.

Smith was pulling away from the store's gas pumps and preparing to leave the lot when he struck McCormack, police said.

Windham police also responded. The department's traffic accident reconstruction team is investigating.

Anyone who witnessed this accident is asked to please call Sgt. Wendy Foley at 434-5577.
