DERRY — An 18-year-old man is recovering at a Boston hospital after he was critically injured Thursday when he flipped his car into a brook.
Jared Rizzotti was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital after hitting a tree at 4 a.m., landing upside down in the brook near 30 Pond Road. Rizzotti had improved to fair condition as of yesterday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesman.
Rescue crews had to hold Rizzotti's head above the foot-deep water as they tried to free him from the vehicle. Rizzotti wasn't wearing a seat belt and was unconscious when rescue crews arrived.
Battalion Chief Michael Doyle said it took 17 minutes to extricate Rizzotti from the vehicle using hydraulic tools.
Rizzotti was initially rushed to Parkland Medical Center with serious injuries, but then was flown to Mass General.
