Reach the Beach Relay Race volunteers sought in Kingston

KINGSTON — Volunteers are needed for the Reach the Beach Relay Race on Saturday, Sept. 18.

D.J. Bakie Elementary School will provide a transition station for the race, which starts at Bretton Woods and ends at Hampton Beach State Park. The station will offer food, drinks and rest for the relay teams.

Volunteers are needed for many positions. Food donations always are needed. Six to eight volunteers are needed for each of three shifts, which last a few hours. The groups will direct teams, park vans, time runners, sell food, handle recycling and take care of anything the runners need.

The following items are needed for the food table: loaves of bread, peanut butter, squeezable jelly, orange slices, Gatorade, water, trail mix, bagels and cream cheese, baked goods and crockpot foods. Baked goods must be individually wrapped or bagged. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt.

Program on depression slated in Newton

NEWTON — A workshop, "Depression: Hope for Healing," will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Newton Junction Baptist Church.

A healing service will follow at 4 p.m. The fee is $40 for those who register by Sept. 13. After Sept. 13, the fee is $50. Members of Newton Baptist Church or Trinity CEC Church receive a $10 discount. A light lunch will be provided.

Checks should be made payable to NCHC. Payment can be dropped off or mailed to the New Creation Healing Center office at 80 Route 125, Kingston, or by calling 642-6700.

Food Fest 2010 set at mall Sunday

SALEM — The Mall at Rockingham Park will host Food Fest 2010, a free event showcasing local farms and businesses, on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

The event in the food court parking lot will feature local produce, live music, entertainment and more. Acoustic singer/songwriter Matt Jackson will perform.

Farmers from around the state will participate. For kids, there will be Kidgits Back to School Fun activities, outdoor games, giveaways and a bounce house.

Free reusable totes filled with product samples and retailer coupons will be given to those who register, while supplies last. A food drive will be held for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank; all nonperishable food items are welcome.

Public input sought on Sanborn contracts

KINGSTON — The Sanborn Regional School Board and the Sanborn Regional Education Association will host a public forum regarding the professional and support staff contracts.

The main topic for the evening will be the "evergreen clause". The goal is to provide the public with factual information regarding the evergreen clause, and take public input concerning the teacher and support staff contracts.

The forum will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Sanborn Regional High School.

Make table decorations for fall, holidays

HAMPSTEAD — Bert Ford of Ford Flowers in Salem will give a demonstration at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ford will show how to create table decorations for fall and the upcoming holidays at Hadley Hall, Congregational Church. The event is presented by the Hampstead Garden Club.

Tickets are $5. Call Fran Rosenau at 887-5131 to buy advance tickets.

Donate blood in Plaistow on Sept. 15

PLAISTOW — There will be an American Red Cross blood drive Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Plaistow Fish and Game Club, 18 May Ray Ave.

The blood drive is sponsored by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. Donor hours are from 1 to 6 p.m.

All donors will receive an American Red Cross reusable tote bag.
