'Suspicious' man was Fisk School parent

SALEM — Police have determined the report of a suspicious man and car in the area of Fisk Elementary School earlier this month was a parent, following his own child home.

Police stepped up patrols at the town’s elementary schools after a 10-year-old reported being followed by a suspicious man April 10.

The student reportedly was followed by a blue car, possibly with temporary New Hampshire license plates. The car was described only as a man in his 30s.

Yesterday, Detective Bob Genest determined was an area resident.

A resident reported seeing a vehicle matching the description from the prior incident at an address on Sullivan Court.

Genest interviewed the owner, who said he occasionally lets his own child walk home from school, but he follows him in his car.

The student who originally reported the suspicious car later was able to identify a photograph of the vehicle as the one he had seen earlier this month.

Police thanked residents for their vigilance and assistance. The investigation is now closed.
