---- — LONDONDERRY— Two Hampstead residents were arrested Thursday after police said they stole nearly $300 in groceries.

Police say Chelsea Bennett, 19, and Michael Chenard, 34, of 25 Glenwood North Road, went into the Shaw’s on Nashua Road in Londonderry and walked out with $268 worth of groceries on May 22.

Londonderry police Lt. Ryan Kearney said a Shaw’s employee noticed Bennett and Chenard walking toward the door with a basket full of groceries. The employee asked them for their receipt and the pair took off into the parking lot.

Kearney said the items stolen included Lunchables pizza, Oreo cookies, vitamin water and DVDs.

Chenard and Bennett remained unidentified until a Salem police officer recognized them from video footage taken at the store. They had been arrested in Salem earlier this year for willful concealment and receiving stolen property.

Kearney said both were processed at Rockingham County House of Corrections, where they were being held on the previous charges. Both were charged with theft and shoplifting from the Londonderry incident.

Chenard remains held on $15,000 bail and Bennett is being held on $2,000 bail.
