SUV strikes Derry Dunkin' Donuts

DERRY — Two people escaped serious injury when a sport utility vehicle slammed into a wall at Dunkin’ Donuts on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred about 9 p.m. when a Jeep Liberty struck the front of the shop at 5 Crystal Ave., according to Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas. No one inside Dunkin’ Donuts was hurt, he said.

The pair, whose names were not available, were taken by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center as a precaution. Thomas said.

General manager Jason Travassos said employees happened to look outside and see the SUV coming toward the shop. “Someone drove into the parking lot and banged into the building,” he said. “We’re just lucky no one inside got hurt.” Travassos did not know how many people were in the shop.

The building only received minor damage and remains structurally sound, Travassos said. A glass panel popped out of place and aluminum paneling was bent, he said.

The shop was closed for about an hour, Travassos said.

No further details on the accident were available yesterday.
