SALEM — Kelley Library has a lot planned for January.
On Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m. the Salem Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club is starting off the New Year with “Oryx & Crake” by Margaret Atwood. On Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m., READ to Dixie, Kelley Library’s visiting READ therapy dog.
Children can practice their reading skills with Dixie. Bring your own book or select one at the library. Registration is required. Sign up for one 15-minute session by calling the library at 898-7064, or stop by the Children’s Room.
That same night, Jan. 9, at 6:30 p.m., it’s Lego & Barbie Night in the Reed Children’s Room.
Bring your Lego building bricks and Barbie dolls to the Kelley Library for an hour of play and imagination. This program is for kids ages 6 to 10 and their families. There’s no need to register, just drop in and join the fun. To find more programs and activities happening in the children’s room, stop by the Reed Children’s Room, or call the library at 898-7064.
The Kelley Library Non-Fiction Book Group meets Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. The selection for January 2013 is “A History of the World in 100 Objects” by Neil MacGregor. New members are always welcome. Drop in for one discussion. Copies of the book are available at the library.
Friday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m. is the time for Movie Night at Kelley Library. The first offering in this year of Academy Award winners by decade is the 1927 silent movie “Wings,” starring Clara Bow, Richard Arlen, Charles “Buddy” Rogers and Gary Cooper in a cameo appearance.
