Hampstead library hosts storyteller

HAMPSTEAD — Join the Friends of Hampstead Public Library and storyteller Pat Spalding for “Tales of Romance and Adventure” at the library on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.

Many may already be familiar with Spalding’s storytelling skills and humor. Anyone who never has heard her regale her adult audiences with stories of love, loss, changing relationships, and letting go, should mark their calendars now.

Spalding describes herself as a “monologist/majorette.” She tells stories about the circuitous route she has taken to find her bliss. That explains the “monologist” part of her description. But what about the “majorette?” After all, she’s admittedly over 60. But she learned to twirl a baton and now leads the Leftist Marching Band of Portsmouth, dressed in her majorette’s outfit, complete with tasseled boots. And she’ll tell you how this came about as well.

As with all Friends of the Library programs, Spalding’s appearance is free and open to the public.

Refreshments will follow the program. Members of the Friends are invited to stay for the monthly meeting that follows.

TD Bank has once again donated a big raffle basket full of items to help celebrate Valentine’s Day.

There are chocolates, a DVD of Jennifer Lopez in “The Back Up Plan;” a CD of “The Soul of the ‘80s;” a bottle of wine with two “be mine” glasses; the book “All We Need is Love;” a warm and cuddly Valentine throw; heart-themed decorations; and cooking supplies.

Tickets for this overloaded Valentine basket are available at the front desk of the library. They are $1 each or six for $5. The winner will be drawn just before the start of the program Feb. 12 with Spalding. The winner need not be present to win. Businesses, organizations and individuals who would like to donate a raffle basket for a future monthly raffle may contact Ruth Paul at nhpauls@google.com.

All funds raised by the raffles go to the Friends and support the public library.
