PELHAM, N.H. — A local man was cited by police after his off-highway recreational vehicle fell into an ice fishing hole and into Gumpus Pond on Saturday evening, police said.
Jared Goulet, 28, was not injured when he was thrown off the 1985 Honda 350X three-wheeler before it collapsed through the ice and sunk into the pond at 4:57 p.m., according to a police report.
He was cited by police for driving an unregistered off-highway recreational vehicle, police said.
Police said Goulet was driving across the pond when he hit an area he thought was black ice.
“Goulet quickly found out that the area was actually open water where someone had cut a large fishing hole,” police wrote in a statement released yesterday.
The front tire of the machine went into the water and Goulet was thrown off. The machine ended up in three to four feet of water.
The recreational vehicle was removed from the pond before New Hampshire Fish and Game and the Department of Environmental Services were contacted, police said.
