Salem police have busy weekend

SALEM, N.H. — Police arrested three people on drug charges and a fourth for being a fugitive from justice in separate incidents over the weekend.

Acting on a tip Friday evening, police were conducting surveillance in the Salem Plaza at 265 S. Broadway. They were there in response to a tip a man was trying to sell cocaine there.

Police spotted Jeffrey Ramos, 24, of Lawrence just before 9:30 p.m. and determined he was, indeed, there to sell the drug.

Officers found a small amount of cocaine in a shoebox in Ramos’s car. He was charged with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and transportation of controlled drugs.

Ramos was released on $2,000 cash bail.

About 10 minutes later, police assisted the Massachusetts State Police Fugitive Task Force locate a man wanted on felony charges in that state.

Police found Nathan Alphonse, 23, of Methuen in a bedroom at 20 Messer Ave.

After a brief struggle, Alphonse was taken into custody. Police found him in possession of marijuana and a small number of Oxycodone pills.

Alphonse was charged with being a fugitive from justice, felony possession of a controlled drug and a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

He was held on $125,000 cash bail on the fugitive from justice charge.

Earlier that same day, police helped the U.S. Secret Service and Belmont (Mass.) Police Department locate another suspect wanted on larceny and counterfeiting charges.

Gursat Otucu, 42, of Belmont was taken into custody at La Quinta hotel. He was held on $25,000 cash bail as a fugitive from justice.

Early Sunday morning, just before 1 a.m., police stopped Jason Piniero, 28, of Salem on Cluff Crossing Road for motor vehicle infractions.

Piniero passed field sobriety tests, but during their investigation, police found “numerous” individually wrapped packages of cocaine.

He was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled drug and transportation of drugs.

Piniero refused the services of a bail commissioner and was taken to the county jail.
