NEWTON — The Memorial Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization will host its second annual golf tournament (scramble format) on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m.

The tournament will be held rain or shine at Apple Hill Golf Course in East Kingston.

The entry fee is $400 per foursome and includes a day of golf, golf cart, longest drive challenge, closest to the pin challenges, snacks, food and drinks, awards luncheon, and prizes for first and second place.

Proceeds benefit education and enrichment programs for the children of Memorial Elementary School.

Raffle tickets will be available. Mulligans are $5 each. Hole sponsorships still are available: $50 a hole, which includes publicity during and after the event and your name on a hole sign.

Big Brother Big Sister seeks donations

HAMPSTEAD — The Big Brother Big Sister Foundation is looking for donations of used clothing, small household items, jeans, books and shoes.

Representatives for the foundation will travel door to door to pick up the donations in Danville and Hampstead on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The foundation also recycles electronics for a small fee and car donations.

Donations, which are tax-deductible, help support the children involved in Big Brother Big Sister.

Londonderry Fish and Game hosts open house

LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry Fish and Game Club will host its annual open house on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

The public is invited.

The archery range will be open with foam targets at distances up to 50 yards.

There are still trout in the pond as well.

Fishing requires appropriate New Hampshire licenses.

A supervised .22-caliber rifle range is available for beginners and youths using the club's .22-caliber rifles and ammo.

A loaner shotgun and ammo are available on the shotgun range.

There is a nominal charge for ammo and clay birds.

Range rules and club rules apply on all ranges and club property.

The ranges and facilities are available for use with supervision by range officers.

All non-club members must sign a waiver for all members in their party to participate. For those under 18, a guardian is required.

The club is at 5 Lund St., Litchfield.

    HAMPSTEAD - Selectman Sean Murphy told the crowd at last night's deliberative session that he changed his mind about the $1.53 million warrant article to build a new police station.
    Murphy voted not to recommend the plan to build a 7,600-square-foot, one-story facility on Veterans Way in January. But he told more than 50 people at last night's meeting he now feels differently.
