Danville selectman resigns

DANVILLE — Selectmen are seeking a new member to replace Vice Chairman Joseph Luna, who has stepped down from the board.

Luna, who was appointed in 2006 and then elected in 2007 and 2009, resigned for personal reasons.

Earlier this week, the board began accepting letters of interest and resumes for the position. The application period ends Sept. 20.

Selectmen will then narrow the applicants and select a few to interview, according to selectmen's Chairman Shawn O'Neil. The board's appointee will serve until a new selectman is elected to a three-year term in March, he said.

O'Neil said the board accepted Luna's resignation and thanked him for his service during its annual meeting at the Old Meeting House a few weeks ago. Selectmen meet at the Old Meeting House, built in 1755, during Old Home Days each August.

"He is going to be missed on the board," O'Neil said.

He praised the former Heritage Commission chairman and Planning Board member for his rational approach to town issues.

Luna, whose three-year term was to end in 2012, could not be reached for comment.
