Salem police catch shoplifting suspect on I-93

SALEM — A shoplifting suspect lost his shoes and shirt — and his freedom when he was charged and held on robbery and shoplifting charges Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Nathan Goguen, 25, of Littleton, Mass., tried to leave Macy's in the Mall at Rockingham Park with a backpack and clothing worth $278.

Police were called to the scene just past 4:30 p.m. for a report a man had assaulted a store loss prevention employee and was heading toward Interstate 93 in his car. Goguen struggled with the store security officer and managed to break free, according to Deputy Chief Shawn Patten.

Police caught up with Goguen on Interstate 93 south and took him into custody without incident.

The suspect lost his shoes in the scuffle in the store and was not wearing a shirt when arrested, Patten said.

He was held on $1,000 cash bail pending his arraignment in Salem District Court on a charged of unarmed robbery and one of shoplifting.
