Newton hosts 5K walk, run, fun run

---- — NEWTON — The third annual Memorial School 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run/In will be held in conjunction with Newton Town Days Saturday, Sept. 21.

Everyone can participate; it’s a fun family community event.

It starts at Newton Memorial School at 31 West Main St. Enjoy the USATF-certified loop course through the rolling country roads of Newton. Start and finish at the school.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the Fun Run begins at 9:30 a.m. Walkers step off at 10 a.m. and runners at 10:30 a.m. Professional timing will be provided by 3C Race Productions. There also will be carnival games, face-painting, a bouncy house, food, raffle prizes, and demonstrations of Zumba, gymnastics, Ultimate Cheer, martial arts and Tae Kwon Do.

All proceeds are to benefit the Newton Memorial School PTO, raising money to enrich children’s school experience. They are also selling vendor tables for $25. The cost is $15 before Sept. 15, $20 after that. There is no entry fee for the Fun Run for ages 3 to 11. There will be free T-shirts for the first 100 registered adult participants.

Newton Town Day will be participating with zoo creatures, music by Three Play, and Smokey Bear. A chili and apple dessert contest will be happening, along with a children’s pie eating contest. They have also coordinated other family friendly activities provided by the town departments and organizations.
