Derry woman is injured in Londonderry motorcycle crash

LONDONDERRY — A 52-year-old Derry woman suffered a serious leg injury after being thrown from her motorcycle last night.

The woman was leaving the parking lot at the McDonald’s restaurant on Nashua Road shortly after 7 p.m., headed out the exit toward Gilcreast Road when she lost control of the motorcycle while going around the curb, according to police.

“She struck a guard rail and vaulted over the guard rail, 30 feet into the woods,” Londonderry Police Sgt. Adam Dyer said.

“It’s a very steep embankment. A witness on scene reported a possible leg amputation, but she was found to have a severe leg injury. Serious, but not believed to life threatening,” he said.

Police were withholding the name of woman, pending notification of family members.

An ambulance drove the injured woman to a staging area set up in the Home Depot parking lot, where a medical helicopter transported the woman to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. No report was available on her condition.

Sgt. Dyer sad the woman was was traveling with another motorcyclist at the time of the accident.
