SALEM — The Zoomers, a 60-and-over softball team in Salem, is wrapping up a successful first season with its own version of the World Series at Michele Memorial Park.
The Zoomers, whose players’ average age is in their 70s, split into two teams to battle it out Monday. The team began playing in May, gathering each Monday morning at the park. The Blue Zoomers beat the Red Zoomers, 14-10, in the first game of the best-of-five series.
The softball team was so successful, plans are in the works to form a senior basketball team, according to Salem Senior Services director Patti Drelick.
