Cub Scout signup continues through October

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — Cub Scout signups will be held across northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire from mid-September through the end of October.

Many parents may already know of someone in a Cub Scout Pack they would like to join, have a unit that is connected to their house of worship or school, or may have already seen advertising for signup nights offered by the units in their community.

If not, parents can locate Cub Scout Packs and find Cub Scout leader contact information for their communities by visiting BeAScout.org, clicking on the “Cub Scouts” tab on the home page and then entering their zip code.

Cub Scouts is for boys (and their families) who are in first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age.

There are also Scouting opportunities for older youth. Boy Scouts is for boys, their friends and families who are at least 10 years old or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old.

Venture Scouting is for young women and men who are 13 or 14 years of age, have completed the eighth grade and are under 21 years of age. Information about units in your community can be found in the same manner as outlined above for Cub Scouts.

This year’s signup theme is “Adventure Awaits! Real. Live. Adventure. Prepared. For Life.(r)” which emphasizes the opportunities Scouting offers young people to make friends and have real-life adventures in the community and in the outdoors. The year-round Cub Scout program is designed to enrich the boys’ lives, and promote character and leadership skills as well as mental and physical fitness. Activities can include participation in Scouting for Food, a nationwide food collection project that benefits local food pantries; the iconic Pinewood Derby; and camping.
